What to Expect When You Join Slimming World

extra easy plan bookI joined slimming world on 27th March to begin the 2nd half of my diet journey having lost 3 stone on the Cambridge Weight Plan, it had changed a little since I was a member 2 years ago but totally for the better in my opinion and my aim is to now get the other 3 stone off and keep it off by food optimising.

The half price joining fee meant I paid £5 to join and £4.95 for my first week which was only £9.95 in total (usually 14.95) which was a nice bonus. I rang the Wittering Slimming World group leader a few days before having found the group on the slimming world website and it was really simple to find a group near me and it was also less than 5 minutes from my house, brill :-) we had a quick chat and I was asked to turn up 10 minutes before usual weigh in began and she would get me signed up and then spend some time going through the plan and the new member starter pack (new member induction)

It was quite nice as when I arrived I got a lovely welcome from the group leader and I filled out my registration form, there was another lady starting too and the room was full of people attending class, it fmembers card slimming worldelt warm, friendly and I knew I would fit in well, I felt really comfortable having been apprehensive about it a few days before. The Slimming World starter pack looked a lot different to when I did the plan before and when the leader went through this and the books contained in it, it is all very simple.

The Extra Easy plan has its own book, Original (RED) /Green plans have its own book too. I am going to follow the original plan (red) so this made things really simple for me as the plans used to be all in one book which was a little confusing but Slimming World make it really easy to follow which ever plan you want, there is so much flexibility which is what I love about it.

In addition to the plan books you get a Body Magic book, which is for logging your exercise and general information on exercise/healthy living plus you get a general book explaining who Slimming World are and how the plans work and what other things you get as part of your membership.

  • £4.95 per week fee & an hour image therapy (group time with your consultant and access to them by phone, text and email)
  • Weigh in card plus you are given a pin which you need to access the Lifeline Online (members area on the website)
  • Unlimited access to lifeline online which has recipes, tips, food diaries where you can record what you eat & weight loss trackers to keep track of your awards, Syn calculators for working out Syn values of foods , menus to help you get started, more success stories to motivate and inspire you and tons more help and support
  • Starter pack (as per above)
  • Reduced price on Slimming World’s monthly magazine
  • Meet new friends and share recipes in group
  • Facebook group (like it and get regular updates from Slimming World HQ)
  • Access to the Slimming World mobile app – once logged in you can check things like Syn values on the go – so useful when you are doing food shopping :-)

discover slimming world bookThe list goes on and one :-) I was quite overwhelmed by all the support from just my first meeting and I know this was the best decision I could have made to continue my weight loss journey all the way to the end and maintaining it for the long term.

Weigh in is nice and private out of the way of everyone else and I happened to join on a taster evening which is great as other members cook things and bring them in for people to try but I just read through the starter pack and ignored the food on the tables as the last 4 months have been so restricted for me in regards to food I found it really easy to ignore it till I know the plan better :-)

During group awards are given out, you get an award for every half stone you lose (a sticker for your book and certificates) and Slimmer of the week is announced – all nice little incentives to keep you motivated on your weight loss journey. Make sure you take a syn free food or a piece of fruit to group as Slimmer of the Week tends to win a basket full of these goodies which is often nice if your low on fruit at home :-)

My first taslimming world body magic bookrget is my CLUB 10 which is 10% of my current weight. I am hoping to get there in the next 6-8 weeks which means I will then be only 1 stone and half away from target, small steps to the bigger goal…

Once you reach TARGET you become a lifelong member of Slimming World which means you do not pay your weekly fee, providing you stay within 3 lbs + or – from your target weight, you do get a week’s grace on this I believe though to put things right – again another simple motivation to keep you focused.

£4.95 is a tiny price to pay for all this support and weight loss tools don’t you think? :-)

I am going to be making the switch from cambridge to either slimming world or weight watcher. I have already lost 3 & a half stone on the cambridge plan. Don’t really want to lose much more, it’s more about maintaining my weight. I know how easy it is to gain weight. Any tips for me about th switch ?
